All Are Welcome
We welcome dancers and performing artists of all genres and abilities to schedule an appointment in our SeaPAM Free Clinic. The clinic is designed to assist with diagnosis of injuries in performing artists who are uninsured (or underinsured), but all are welcome. We take a team-based approach in caring for the local artist community, and understand the complex needs of injured performing artists. We will do our best to address all your needs in clinic, but can also assist with referrals, if necessary.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need insurance to make an appointment?
Our FREE evaluations for dancers and performing artists are designed to help those who do not have health insurance or access to clinicians with expertise in Dance and Performing Arts Medicine. We do not charge for our services. If I have health insurance, may I still schedule an appointment? At this time, we do not turn away patients based on their insurance status. That being said, if you do have health insurance, often it makes more sense for us to help you connect with clinicians in your local community (especially if further work-up, such as x-rays are recommended, or if you need assistance in advancing your home exercise program). This allows us to focus our efforts more toward artists who otherwise would not have access to the services we provide. I think I have ____________ problem and wonder if I am appropriate for your clinic. Our SeaPAM FREE Clinic is designed primarily for artists who are uninsured (or underinsured) or do not have access to a physician or physical therapist with expertise in treating dance-related injury. (You are always appropriate for our clinic if you fall into that category, no matter your age, genre, or diagnosis. If you do have health insurance and are having trouble finding a trusted physician or physical therapist, you can peruse our clinician profiles for some great choices. Depending on your diagnosis, you may discover a more comprehensive array of treatment options available when you visit with a physician or physical therapist in a more traditional clinical setting. For instance, we lack the resources to obtain radiographs, provide injection-based treatment, or prescribe medication. (When we feel an aritst would benefit from these types of diagnostic or therapeutic interventions, we can help them explore their options and provide referrals to local community resources.) If there are no openings, can I get on a waiting list? Depending on the popularity of our clinics, this may be a possibility in the future, but we do not currently have the ability to maintain a 'waiting list' for appointments at the SeaPAM Free Clinic. However, if you choose to receive e-mail updates then you will be among the first to hear when new appointments become available. |
What is the best way to find out about the next clinic?
There are several ways to find out about future clinics.
If I have been evaluated in the past, can I return for a follow up evaluation? We encourage follow-up visits, depending on your schedule and appointment availablility. During follow-up appointments, we often like to "advance" or "progress" your home exercise program, depending on the progress you have made. We understand that scheduling follow-up visits can be difficult given the frequency and availability of appointments, and we are continually working 'behind the scenes' to recruit additional volunteers and locations for our SeaPAM FREE Clinic for your convenience. What can I expect from a typical appointment? We take an interdisciplinary approach in our SeaPAM FREE Clinics. For most appointments, you will be seen in evaluation by both a physician and a physical therapist. If further work-up is recommended, we will refer you back to your primary medical providers or offer you information on free or reduced medical services in the local community. For the first half of your appointment, you can expect to discuss the details of your dance-related injury and undergo a physical examination. For the second half of the appointment, a physical therapist will help you develop a basic home exercise program, as appropriate, to help address your issue (and improve your technique). How long does a typical appointment last? Around 30-60 minutes (15-20 minutes to discuss your problem and perform a physical examination; 20-40 minutes to teach exercises, as appropriate). Can you provide referrals to local clinicians? Yes, you can check out our clinician profile page for local physicians, physical therapists, and other clinicians with expertise in working with dancers and performing artists. PAMA and IADMS also maintain a database of providers (for artists who are visiting from other areas). If you are still having difficulty finding someone in the local Seattle area, please send us a quick e-mail, and we would be more than happy to point you in the right direction.
